Hello! I’m Valerie.

I’m a history lover and technical writer based in Houston, Texas. I’m a longtime enthusiast of gardening, day hiking, and fiber arts. (Seriously, I’m fascinated by looms, spinning, and quilting.) I believe in the transformative power of the written word, and I am enthusiastic about using words to connect people. I write essays that often interrogate the intersection of history and technology, especially concerning popular culture, race, and gender.

What Val Said is an effort to get some of the thoughts out of my notebooks and onto the web for others to read. It’s a way to document some of the events of my life in order to connect with other folks who may share some of my interests. This blog is free because I believe in accessibility for everyone, regardless of their financial status. However, if you are feeling generous, paid subscriptions are welcome. :-)
